Welcome to Milkweed and Monarchs! I’m Dawn Klem, and in this first episode, I want to take a moment to introduce myself, share what inspired me to start this podcast, and explain the meaning behind its name.

I’m not a celebrity, an athlete, or a politician—just an everyday person with stories to tell. I grew up in southern Michigan, navigated life’s twists and turns, and eventually found my way into nursing, a career that shaped me in ways I never expected. But before that, I had no clear direction. I worked, I explored, and I stumbled into the military, where the Navy ultimately decided my career for me.

This podcast is about reflection, resilience, and the moments that shape us. It’s about the people who inspire us, the lessons we learn, and the unexpected paths we take. And as for the name Milkweed and Monarchs—well, that’s a story in itself.
